10am Meal – Bullet Coffee

Bullet coffees are my breakfast and dinner everyday.  They are going to be just under 300 calories total and amazing.  You have to get a few ingredients but it works out to be a few bucks per meal and totally worth it.  I have included links for everything I get.  You can go with the ones I picked out, or go with your own versions.  Normally I try to find the best cost to quality ratio.  Some stuff you can get generic versions, some things (like protein) you want higher brands.  The big reason people likes these is they are low carb, high in fat, and hard to finish quickly.  So the low carb part keeps you from having a craving for more food, the fat keeps you full throughout the day, the mixture of the fats also are believed to put people in ketosis, plus the coffee and other ingredients really perks you up and keeps you from crashing.

INGREDIENTS

  • Instant Coffee – I normally do decaf as I have a pre workout powder before the gym that already has lots of caffeine in it, and since my second one is at night, I don’t really want to be up all night.  However if I am going out for the night or its a day I didnt take my pre workout powder then I like to have a caffeinated version. • Collagen Powder – This stuff is great for your body.  Joints, hair, fingernails, skin.  The usual.  LINK
  • MCT Oil Powder – This is basically super refined coconut oil without the coconut taste.  Some people love the taste of coconut, I do, but in coffee it can start making it chunky if it becomes luke warm.  You want this stuff because when it mixes with butter it creates a super filling fat that helps keep you full. LINK
  • Butter – Make sure you get something like kerrygold or a higher end version that has their cows grass fed.  You want to get it from a store as its far more expensive ordering online, due to the instant shipping thats needed to keep it from melting.  You can also do ghee butter instead and grab that at costco or sams club for pretty cheap   LINK
  • Protein Powder – I love myprotein.com they are independently rated highly and overall a great brand.  Be sure to get the impact whey isolate.  Its a bit more but you get a better protein per calorie ration, it has BCAAs, and it is lower carb.  While it seems pricey, you normally can get 5.5 lbs for $35 when it goes on sale about once a month.  Or get 11.1lbs for $70.  Go with salted caramel, but they have other great flavors like mocha.  I have purchased vanilla too, which while good, just doesn’t come anywhere close to the salted caramel. DIRECTIONS

  1. Take a mug, fill it with water, and microwave it.  Now you can’t have it too hot or you will cook your protein powder and create a gross granulated version.  I have a pretty powerfull microwave and I do 2 minutes for mine.
  2. In a blender mix together one serving of collagen powder, 1 serving or MCT powder, 1 tbsp of butter, and a little under 1 table spoon of instant coffee.
  3. Put your hot water on top of those ingredients.
  4. Put one overflow scoop of your protein powder on top of this.  I found this is the best way to make sure you don’t curdle the protein powder (you will notice it gross and grainy if its cooked)
  5. Turn on the blender on low and let it run for a minute.
  6. If you want a little froth just turn up the blender a bit and it will get super frothy.  Be careful not to do this too much or you will have a very whipped drink.
